Bathroom theme: Lagoon

If there is any theme you're going to adopt as part of your next bathroom makeover, make sure it's that of a picturesque lagoon dancing through the entire spectrum of blues.
Cut-off from other larger bodies of water over time, lagoons become their own entity and it is right here where the mystery looms and is in many ways a reflection of the private yet relaxing nature of bathrooms. So just how do you bring this theme to life?
Nail the colour scheme
As we've seen previously, many bathroom themes revolve around a particular colour scheme. There were the vast blues and sandy yellows for the Caribbean Beach theme and then a mixture of greens and creams to create a Rainforest backdrop.
With lagoons, however, you can't look past the staple colour that is blue. But that doesn't in any way limit your options. The good thing about working with water-based themes with a host of blue connotations is that you can exploit the whole entire range.

A lagoon theme will look just as great with a border of navy up against a lighter cornflower combination of tiles and paint as would a selection of iris blue mosaic tiles coupled with sky blue walls and ceramics. There is a clear definition of what a lagoon looks like, but the true colours can only be imagined by you.
Splash out, literally
Although there will be exceptions, usually quite rare ones at that, when it's absolutely necessary for you to splash the cash and go way over your set budget for a bathroom makeover, this little section is merely encouraging the importance of water sounds – what you spend is up to you!
Splashes, drips and cascading ripples are what will bring the lagoon bathroom and all its colours to life. While it's far from wise in terms of your bills and the environment to keep these sounds constant, you do want to invest in what will have the biggest impact on your ears when in use.
Left Hand Pilot Bath
Open walk-in shower enclosures separated from the rest of the bathroom by nothing more than a clear screen really allow the shower to feel part of the overall design. Similarly, corner baths fit snuggly into, you guessed it, the corners, and are designed to have the outer edge decorated with panelling – a great opportunity to further enhance the room's vibrant blues, or to take on a whole new a pattern of shiny minerals found in lagoon reefs.
There's something lagoon-like about oval counter top basins too; resembling a little coastal pool when holding water and even more luxurious in sandy marble where every textured pattern is unique.
Finally, lagoonerise
Is there a more fitting way to coin the process of accessorising in your lagoon-themed bathroom and bringing those final touches together? Lagoonerising will ensure it's smart and personal to achieve that desired style.

Fortunately, almost all small bathroom accessories such as hand-wash containers, soap dishes and toothbrush holders are available in shades to match the existing colour scheme, as are all necessary soft fabrics like towels and facecloths.
A couple of plants dotted around the room also never go amiss, especially considering most lagoons are surrounded by some sort of vegetation, and leave space for a little water feature with trickles pumped round on a loop to keep those water sounds in the air when all else is tranquil.
